PHOTOS “DU PAYS LE PLUS RICHE DU MONDE”

A finals de 2017, Danaé Panchaud, directora del Photoforum Pasquart de Biel a Suïssa, ens va proposar fer una exposició sobre el treball de Ca l’Isidret. Després de donar-hi moltes voltes, vam oferir una exposició a partir de les fotografies que faríem en una estada de deu dies a la ciutat de Biel mateixa. Danaé Panchaud va acceptar la proposta de bon grat i el mes de maig de 2018 vam viatjar a Biel per fer les fotos en qüestió. Després d’uns primers dies de certa incertesa i desorientació, vam aconseguir treballar sota la idea d’un possible títol: “Fotografies del país més ric del món”, un títol que, després, no va ser acceptat per a l’exposició, que va acabar anomenant-se, simplement, “Ca l’Isidret”.
At the end of 2017, Danaé Panchaud, director of the Photoforum Pasquart in Biel, Switzerland, gave us the opportunity to do an exhibition on the work of Ca l’Isidret.After much thought, we proposed an exhibition based on the photographs that we would take during a ten-day stay in the city of Biel itself. Danaé Panchaud gladly accepted the proposal and in May 2018 we traveled to Biel to take the photos. After the first few days of some uncertainty and disorientation, we managed to work under the idea of a possible title: "Photographs of the wealthiest country in the world", a title that, later, was not accepted for the exhibition, which ended up being called simply "Ca l'Isidret".

[...] Toutes les images présentées dans l’exposition ont été réalisées au cours d’une résidence de 10 jours à la fin du mois d’avril [2018] à Bienne, au cours de laquelle ils ont photographié la ville, ses habitants, ses rues et ses animaux, dirigeant leur regard et pointant leur caméra sur une myriade de détails: plantes et fleurs domestiquées, panneaux de signalisation urbains détaillant de multiples interdits, voitures poussiéreuses ou rutilantes, corbeaux saisis en vol, statues de la vieille ville, portraits en gros plan. Un questionnement sur la richesse les a accompagné au long de leur découverte de la ville, et de leurs prises de vue. Ayant entendu à plusieurs reprises à Bienne que la Suisse était le pays le plus riche du monde – et ayant rapidement établi que l’affirmation n’était pas exacte – cette revendication ou label récurrente les a néanmoins marqués et a façonné leur expérience à Bienne. Si la richesse n’est pas directement une thématique de l’exposition, cette affirmation, et la perception de soi qu’elle implique, ont eu une incidence sur les processus de production et de sélection des images.

[...] They produced every image presented in the exhibition during their 10-days residency at the end of April [2018] in Biel, photographing the city’s dwellers, its streets and animals, directing their gaze and pointing their cameras at a delicate array of details: domesticated plants and flowers, tedious street signage, shiny and dusty cars, flying crows, statues in the old town, close-up portraits. Accompanying them throughout their simultaneous discovery and shooting of the city was a questioning about wealth. Having heard multiple times in Biel that Switzerland was the richest country in the world – and having promptly verified that the assertion was unfounded – this recurring claim or label nonetheless stuck with them and shaped their experience in Biel. While wealth is not straightforwardly a topic of the exhibition, this statement and the self-perception it implies underlied the processes of production and of selection of the images.

Sie fotografierten die Stadt, deren Bewohner_innen, Strassen und Tiere – den Blick und die Kamera auf unzählige Details gerichtet: Zierpflanzen, Verbotsschilder, verstaubte und glänzende Autos, Raben im Flug, Statuen in der Altstadt, Porträts in Grossaufnahme. Während sie die Stadt entdeckten und fotografierten, begannen sie den der Schweiz nachgesagten Wohlstand zu hinterfragen. Obwohl während ihrem Aufenthalt die Schweiz immer wieder als reichstes Land der Welt bezeichnet wurde, empfanden sie diese Aussage nicht als zutreffend. Dennoch hatte das ständige wiederholen dieser Behauptung als eine Art Label Spuren hinterlassen und ihre Erfahrungen in Biel beeinflusst.
